NAA BONGU ADAM BADIMSUGURU ZULUM THE 30TH NAYIRI (KING OF MAMPRUGU KINGDOM) 1967-1985

Naa Bongu Adam Badimsuguru Zulum was the 30TH King of the Mamprugu kingdom(Nayiri) He ruled as King of the Ancient Mamprugu kingdom for 18 years 1967-1985 he was the son of Naa Zulum Badimsugru Azabu Pa'ari. He succeeded the skins of Mamprugu from Naa Sheriga Abdulai father of the reigning Nayiri i.e Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga.

Soon after the enskinment of Naa Bongu Adam Badimsuguru, he realised there was an interregnum at the Bawku skins. The 13TH Bawku-Naaba Naa Salma Yirimeya had died in 1962 and the Bawku skins have been vacant for about 5 years. Naa Bongu's predecessor Naa Sheriga Abdulai enskinned Bawku-Naa Salma Yirimeya as the Bawku-Naaba in 1957 but he was sent to exile by the Ghanaian first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah till his death in 1962.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah prevented the Nayiri from performing Bawku-Naa Salma Yirimeya's funeral talk less of enskining a new Bawku-Naaba. After the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on 24th February, 1966, the National Liberation Council passed a Decree called NLCD 112 reversing Chiefs that were deskined or exiled by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to their rightful positions.

The Nayiri Naa Bonŋu Adam Badimsuguru performed the funeral of Bawku-Naa Salma Yirimeya and subsequently enskined Bawku-Naa Alhaji Tampuri Adam Zangbeo as the 14th Bawku Naaba.

Bawku-Naa Tampuri Adam Zangbeo, the former Vice President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs reigned as the Bawku-Naaba till his demise in 1981.

Abugrago Azoka (father of Abugrago Aninchema), the CPP Bawku-Naaba enskinned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was removed by the NLCD 112 and he petitioned the National House of Chiefs in 1983. The National House of Chiefs striked off his case and described him as a COMMONER and told him he has no right to question the AUTHORITY of the Nayiri. The National House of Chiefs went further and fined Abugrago Azoka 2000.00 cedis to be paid to the Nayiri.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah nearly took Bawku out of the Mamprugu kingdom, it was Naa Bongu Adam Badimsuguru that brought Bawku back to the Mamprugu kingdom and have secured it forever.

After the National House of Chiefs ruling in 1983, the PNDC government through the manipulations of John Ndebugri devised a strategy and promulgated the PNDC L75 that prevented the Nayiri, Naa Bongu Adam Badimsuguru from performing the funeral of Bawku-Naa Tampuri Adam Zangbeo till his death in 1985. Thankfully, after Ghana returned to constitutional rule in 1992, the illegal PNDC L75 was repelled in 1996.

The reigning Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga performed the funeral of Bawku-Naa Tampuri Adam Zangbeo in December 2021 and he is on course to enskin the next Bawku Naaba.

It should however be noted that there's no law anywhere in the 1992 constitution that stops the Nayiri from enskining a Bawku-Naaba.
